A 15 day field course to be held on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula conducted from: June 16 – July 9, 2008
 

MARB 340 (4 credit hours) & MARB 656 (3 credit hours), TROPICAL MARINE ECOLOGY

 

Field-oriented experience in coral reef, mangrove, sea grass, cave and other tropical marine ecosystems. Special emphasis will be placed on biodiversity, ecology and conservation issues specific to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. This course will involve one week course work in Galveston and a two-week field trip to Akumal on the Caribbean coast of Yucatan. Prerequisites: Intro. Biology, open water scuba certification (Scientific Diver certification recommended) or approval of instructor. Field trip fee: $1700 (not including tuition) covers airfare plus all living and transportation costs while in Mexico.  Course schedule: June 16 – 23: preliminary course work in Galveston; June 24 – July 9: field work at Akumal, Mexico. 

 

A non-refundable registration fee of $150 to cover airline reservations is due by May 1.  Course availability is on a first come – first served basis.  Students must preregister with Patsy Witter at the Marine Biology office at Texas A&M – Galveston (409 740-4528; witterp@tamug.edu).
