Lab Interests:

Research interests: Comparative functional organismal biology and ecomorphology. Integration of morphology and behavioral performance studies of vertebrates to understand organismal adapatations to their environment. Such studies integate several research tools including classic animal dissections, histology, electron microscopy, kinematics and motion analysis, electromyography and other electrophysiological techniques. Recent research topics include investigations of the feeding apparatus and foraging behavior in benthic foraging marine mammals. Other interests include: comparative neurobiology, evolution and function of sensory systems.

  Current Projects:

Foraging Ecology of Bearded Seals
Bite Force in Loggerhead Turtles
Suction and Hydraulic Jetting Forces Produced by Feeding Bearded Seals (Erignathus barbatus)
Morphology of the Bearded Seal (Erignathus barbatus) Muscular-Vibrissal Complex
Ultrastructure of Manatee Enamel
Functional Morphology of the Feeding Apparatus and Alimentary Tract in Pygmy Sperm Whales (Kogia breviceps)
